Indie developer Team 21 Studios announced their plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign earlier this year for their VR MMORPG Ilysia. Now, only four days after its launch, it has already hit 50% of its funding goal. I'd say that is pretty good news.
Taking place 300 years after a war between resource-hungry Lagenans and the native inhabitants of Ilysia, the game will invite players to explore and adventure in a massive open world. Currently spanning just 16km x 18km, the team plans on using the Kickstarter crowdfunding to double Ilysia's size and fill it with rich landscape, NPCs, a good helping of enemies, a crafting system and classic dungeon-crawling elements.
However, the main selling point of the VR MMORPG is its focus on immersion. Players will have several options for traversing the expansive environments, from swimming to driving an airship. Combat will too focus on realism, implementing realistic physics so that bladed weapons must be swung correctly to cause damage. With the new VR blade technologies announced recently, this aspect has me particularly excited.
Team 21 are looking for $60,000 to make Ilysia a reality. In just four days, they made up half of their crowdfunding goal. It doesn't seem inconceivable that Ilysia might just arrive in time for its slated 2021 launch date.
When released, Ilysia will be available for the Oculus Quest, PSVR and PC VR. In the meantime, you might be able to find something to keep you occupied in the massive PSVR sale.
