I don't know about you, but when mobile gaming came around, I knew it was here to stay when I got my hands on a good tower defense game. This game, Bloons, changed my life. Okay, that's dramatic, but it definitely got a lot of my time for a few weeks. Well now we have Tower Defense in VR, or at least a Kickstarter for that. Automata Break VR just started a campaign to hopefully bring this idea to life.
Pumpkin Head Studios already has a PC version and a playable demo, but their ambitions are loftier as they aim to take this whole tower defense experience into the virtual reality realm. The Mexico City based team is hoping to raise a little over $10,000 to turn this into a game that players can enjoy alone, or with a friend locally. If the campaign does well enough, they hope to introduce online multiplayer as well.
If you want to learn more, again, check out the Kickstarter page, but for the most part this is your run of the mill chaotic tower defense game. We're very excited to see this develop, as our own made up metric for a platform's success (a good tower defense game), could finally achieve a passing rating.
Beyond this, we're excited to see the genre expand a bit. Obviously we have the first wave of VR games a few years ago, and then a second more promising collection with games like Pistol Whip VR and Beatsaber, but this third generation is hopefully the one that take VR into the main stream. Studios like these, and newcomers in the space like Chef Studios and Gamechef, a free web based VR game site, give us hope that this content isn't so far from being as wide spread and awesome as mobile content is today.
