The open beta for Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds started yesterday, September 28th, and will last for three weeks until October 19th.
InXile Entertainment and Thirdverse have developed the game Frostpoint VR, a team based multiplayer shooter for virtual reality. The game is available for download through Steam and the Oculus Store for PC VR headsets.
As part of a play to own offer during the open beta, the studio will be handing out 3000 free copies of the game every week that the beta is live for a total of 9000 free copies. The players that receive a free retail version of the game must first meet a few requirements.
Players must take part in at least ten rounds of the game in one week, they also must have a valid Steam or Oculus Store account that can be linked to the game. If these requirements are met, players will have a chance to qualify for a free retail copy of the game when it releases later this year.
This is an interesting promotion for a VR shooter, but it may be just what the developers need to kickstart their player base. Nothing is worse than an online multiplayer game that is completely devoid of players. If there aren’t enough concurrent users of the game, they won’t be able to draw more players in or even justify expanding and updating the game.
Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds is a 10 v 10 PVP shooter with PVE elements. Players will compete in classic shooter game modes like capture and control but with the added twist of both sides having to fend off “Reclaimers”, non-player enemies that target both teams.
Previously, there was a closed beta only on Steam, the new open beta includes more maps, modes, weapons and enemies.
