It looks like id software is getting back into VR

There is some circumstantial evidence that Bethesda Softworks, the studio behind The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series, will be publishing a new VR title developed by id Software.

A new VR title has appeared on an online listing by the Australian government’s media classification board. According to the listing, the new game is currently called Project 2021A. the game is being developed by id Software, a subsidiary of Bethesda.

We do not have much info to go on here. The game is only listed as VR, so it is safe to assume that it will be a VR only title and not a remake of a previous property in the VR space like Skyrim VR.

The game has been given the R 18+ rating for “High impact violence, online interactivity”. This is the same rating as the previously mentioned DOOM VFR. It could be based on a number of different id Software franchises, but it is as yet unannounced.

The title, Project 2021A, gives us a hint that the game will be releasing this year, but it will definitely be a few months before we are given any concrete information on what the game will end up becoming.

Personally, I would love to see the team at id Software come up with a new premise for the game. I love their current slate of franchises, but I would like to see them branch out. If they are given the chance to experiment with the form and what they can achieve, I have no doubts that the team at id could come up with some thing amazing. Then again, I was one of the few people that was obsessed with the original Rage on the PS3.
