After months of teasing various products and accessories in mysterious social media close-ups, HTC appears to finally be teasing a New Vive headset.
HTC's Chinese President described the company's intention to release a new All-in-One VR Headset earlier this year, describing it as a 'Next-Gen Standalone.'
After months of teasing new devices and accessories, HTC have posted another mysterious social media close-up. But this time, it appears the VR giant has something a little bit more substantial to announce:
Various commentators have noted that - if this is indeed an upcoming HTC Vive headset - the image could be hinting that the new device will feature a Quest-like corner-mounted tracking camera. Previous Vive headsets have placed cameras on the front or sides.
This comes after months of HTC teasing various upcoming devices and accessories in mysterious close-ups on Twitter, including those which appeared to be teasing HTC's upcoming 'VR Facial Tracker':
Last month, the President of Vive in China, Alvin Wang Graylin, announced that HTC are working to release a new AIO (or, 'All-in-One') VR Headset later this year. In an interview with TeliportMe, Graylin described it as a significant upgrade from HTC's previous models "from every perspective." Not only that, it will supposedly be "better than what's out there from any vendor today."
However, while the term 'All-In-One' may have the words "quest killer" pop up in everyone's mind, Graylin doesn't appear to have that intention:
I think we’ve said in the past that we will release a new AIO [All-in-One] this year. I don’t think I would position it as a Quest competitor. I think it’s our next-generation standalone, we will have one this year, it is going to be a great product.
Now this is some pretty exciting stuff. It'll be interesting to see what HTC have to offer over the next few days. Be sure to follow VR Final on Twitter to always stay up-to-date with the latest VR breaking news.
