Fall Guys was first released for PS4 and Windows on August 4th. It quickly became a hit on both platforms, with more than 50,000 concurrent players active on Steam shortly after release. Its popularity was aided by the fact that it was available to Playstation Plus users as a free download.
Just over a month later, the game is now available through a re-release of sorts in the form of a VR experience developed for Rec Room. If you aren't familiar with Rec Room, it's essentially a shared online space that allows VR users to interact in a variety of ways. It's compatible with a wide range of devices and operating systems including iOS, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, PC, and Playstation.
As in this case, players can also develop their own experiences. The Fall Guys clone was developed by a user named Dan who dubbed it RecFallGuys. Of course, this isn't exactly a subtle use of the original game's intellectual property, so it remains to be seen whether it will be allowed to stay up in Rec Room.
RecFallGuys is visibly different from its inspiration, but it does a surprisingly good job of emulating the Fall Guys experience. It supports up to 40 simultaneous players, allowing them to play particular levels on their own or go through the usual knockout rounds. Check out the video below to see how Fall Guys plays in VR:
As mentioned above, this could be a short-lived opportunity to experience Fall Guys in VR, especially if the team behind the game moves to protect their intellectual property. For now, you can check the RecFallGuys RecNet page for more information and updates on the game.
