The pandemic has forced most of the world indoors for the past year and everyone has been seeking ways to pass the time. If you own a VR headset, chances are that you have at least tried out Bigscreen in 2020. It’s a great way to watch some of your favourite movies and TV shows.
Because of their growth in their userbase, Bigscreen have expanding their line-up of content and features. Previously they added a dedicated video player so you could watch videos from your own personal collection.
Now they have launched a collection of 172 TV channels that include shows like Rick and Morty, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Samurai Jack, Robot Chicken, The Venture Bros, The Eric Andre Show, and more. They are all free to watch and do not require a subscription.
Each channel also includes a social space. If you want to invite friends or family on the app, you can share that space to binge some of your favourite shows. It isn’t just a static space to watch videos in. Like all of Bigscreens virtual spaces, you can still throw popcorn or tomatoes at the screen or even play games while you watch.
This is the beginning of big things for Bigscreen. Personally, I always felt that it was a bit of a novelty. Sort of a tech demo for the capabilities of VR. Now that we have all been forced indoors and Zoom parties, Twitch streaming and virtual events have become the norm, this suddenly doesn’t seem so novel.
They are in a fantastic place right now and they absolutely have big things ahead of them. If you want to check it out, Bigscreen is available for the Oculus Quest and Quest 2, SteamVR, and as a desktop WebVR experience.
